LiveStrong Fitness LS9.9E Elliptical Trainer Review

LiveStrong LS9.9E Elliptical Trainer ReviewIn addition to the fact when you purchase the LiveStrong LS9.9E elliptical trainer the company makes a contribution to Lance Armstrong's charitable foundation, there are a number of features that make this elliptical trainer appealing.  There was some real thought into the ergonomics of the design.  The LS9.9E was built around the user.

Note: There was a recall of some 18,000 LiveStrong ellipticals because of faulty footpedals. Consequently they are not available at the stores or on their web site.

The company behind LiveStrong, Johnson Fitness, interviewed numerous potential customers to find out what aspects they found most appealing in an elliptical trainer. The result was the SIXstar Certification.  A serious of design elements that accommodate the user.  They include...

ZeroGap Pedal Distance — The pedals are placed close together to minimize stress to the hips and the back.  This is particularly an issue with women.  A common complaint on elliptical trainers is the discomfort from the pedal distance. With the LiveStrong ellipticals you won't feel like you are riding a horse.

LiveStrong LS9.9E consoleEasy Access — The pedals are also placed low to the ground, making it easier to step on and off.  Consequently, you exercise lower to the ground. Some people feel a discomfort from working out higher up. An additional plus to the lower positioning is that the LiveStrong LS9.9E is better suited for a workout area with a low ceiling, like a basement.

StraightUP™Body Posture — You'll find that many elliptical trainer designs tend to force people to lean forward when utilizing the handlebars.  The LS9.9E positions the body upright, with the handlebars ideally located.  This further  reduces stress to your ankles and your back.

A More Natural Foot Path — Not all elliptical strides are the same.  Some have a more oval, choppy motion. The elliptical stride on the Livestrong LS9.9E mimics a natural running or walking motion while minimizing fatigue. It is more flat than oval.

LiveStrong LS9.9E Elliptical Trainer Features...

Adjustable Incline — You can adjust the incline of the elliptical stride.  There are two benefits.  Like a treadmill, when you increase the incline you crank up the cardio workout.   In addition, you target your glutes and your lower abs.

20" Elliptical Stride — You'll find many $999 elliptical come with an 18" stride.  I'm 5'8" and prefer a 20" motion.  It feel more natural and comfortable. For shorter individuals they may prefer a smaller stride.

182" Unit Weight — This may not be the heaviest elliptical at this price, but it is in the upper range.  A factor that contributes to the stability.

Speakers and iPod/MP3 Input — More and more elliptical trainers and treadmills are coming standard with speakers.  The reason - people like to exercise to music and prefer not using headphones.

23 lbs. Flywheel — There are a number of factors that contribute to a smooth elliptical motion, but one of the most important is a heavy flywheel, like 23 lbs.

Our Review - LiveStrong LS9.9E Elliptical Trainer

The $999 price range is very competitive, and manufacturers compete aggressively to have the best machine that sells for $1 less than a $1,000.  The LiveStrong LS9.9E is potentially a strong contender.  It is relatively new, but is compromised of some of the best components used in Horizon and Vision Fitness, both built by Johnson Fitness.  And what appeals to me is the fact they designed an elliptical trainer around the user.  Oh Yeah! Let's not forget when you purchase the LS9.9E the company makes a donation to the fight against cancer.
