Nautilus Elliptical Trainer Review

Nautilus Elliptical Trainer ReviewMost people know Nautilus as the manufacturer of BowFlex strength machines, but Nautilus also builds Nautilus elliptical trainers and Schwinn elliptical trainers and Schwinn exercise bikes, treadmills and their unique treadmill climber. As the patent expires on the BowFlex, Nautilus is making a push into the cardio equipment business.

Nautilus sells elliptical trainers under 4 brand names, Nautilus, Schwinn, Trimline and Stairmaster. Their Nautilus ellipticals are high-end machines starting at $2,300 for their residential models. Their Schwinn ellipticals have been rated by Consumer Report as a "Best Buy."

Their residential models are the Nautilus NE 2000 and NE 3000 elliptical trainers. They are built to withstand light commercial use. Both are equipped with quality components and are backed with a 10 year parts warranty, which is one of the better parts warranty in the industry.

Each model has articulating foot platforms which track the natural movements of your feet throughout the entire elliptical motion. You get both contact and wireless heart rate control. There are 7 programs and 16 levels of resistance. We particularly like the layout and design of the console.

Their commercial models consist of the Nautilus E916 ($5,649) and Nautilus MyStride E916 ($5,949). The MyStride™ technology allows user to vary stride length up to 30" in length. You can adjust your stride length to you individual leg length. An excellent innovation. The problem with elliptical trainers is that they have fixed stride widths. For example, some are built with a small 16" stride width, which can be awkward for a tall individual.

Fitness Source Revew - Nautilus Elliptical Trainers

Nautilus builds quality machines with good components. The problems is they are competing with Precor and Life Fitness. Two venerable companies that have been in the business of building the very best cardio equipment for a number of years. In the $2,000+ price range we suggest you also consider the Life Fitness X3 and the Precor EFX 5.19.

Of the various Nautilus brands the one we suggest you consider is the Schwinn. Click here to read our review of the Schwinn 418 elliptical trainer.

Customer Review Nautilus NE 3000

What a $3000.00 mistake I made 2 1/2 years ago. Bought this model from a local fitness store and after 10 months, a main bolt that holds the entire right leg foot pedal sheared off and sent me tumbling to the floor. A repairman came and fixed this but, after just 3 months later, the same thing happened to the left foot pedal. The bolt in question is on the rear part of the stride blade where it connects to an arm on the main back cylinder assembly. It seems like all the torque goes to this one pressure point; which eventually shears off the bolt. After the repairman saw this 2nd calamity, he was able to get the company to ship the whole elliptical back to Nautilus. They sent a brand new NE 3000 which had an updated console and such. After about another 9 months, the same thing happened again. This time, I called Nautilus and after they were nice to me at first, they have given me the cold shoulder. This last breakdown was shortly before Thanksgiving 2006 and here it is April 2007 and the broken machine is still not fixed. The local company picked the machine up about a month ago, and I do know when I will get it back. When I do, I am going to try to sell it. It has a very serious design flaw. I weigh about 230 lbs and after using this machine for 5-6 days a week for a few months, it made my left knee sore and now I have to wear a brace when I exercise. I am a diabetic and when my doctor told me to exercise regularly 3 years ago, I should have researched more. I spent a lot of my savings on a piece of junk and the Nautilus company has failed to take care of it's customer - the local store here is befuddled on how to fix it. At least they have given me a loaner - the Spirit XE 150 which is about 3 times cheaper, but 1000 more reliable!
