Precor
EFX 5.33 Elliptical Review
The Precor EFX 5.33 elliptical trainer is about as good as you get for a residential cross trainer. It tends to be an overkill for home usage, but if you can afford it, go for it. The focus of Precor Fitness is quality combines with the best crosstraining exercise in the industry. You'll often read customer reviews on other models and they comment on how they were use to Precor ellipticals in the gym and when they bought a moderate priced machine how disappointing it was .
Well you get what you pay for, and with the Precor EFX 5.33 you are paying for commercial quality in a residential machine. That quality is reflected in the 10-year parts warranty. Only the very best components go into a Precor elliptical. And it is that quality that has resulted in countless "Best Buy" ratings.
Note: As of 9/8/10 the Precor EFX 5.33 elliptical trainer was selling for $4,199 with free shipping on Amazon.com
. That is about $300 less than at www.precor.com.
Precor Adjustable CrossRamp
In addition to their reputation for quality, it is their crossramp technology that has gained them so many loyal customers. Precor was the first to come out with the ability to adjust the incline of the elliptical stride. The advantage is you can target different muscles in your lower body as you incline the CrossRamp.
"The lower positions activate all muscle groups, while the higher positions isolate glutes, quads, and calves." In addition, you get a variable stride length from 21" - 23". This give you a long smooth elliptical stride in comparison to the choppy elliptical motions of cheaper machines.
With the CrossRamp you can crank up the incline to 30%, which is guaranteed to get your heart rate up there.
This feature is so popular that Precor has several elliptical with just the lower body CrossRamp workout, and not the upper body handlebars.
Our Review - Precor EFX 5.33 Elliptical Trainer
Normally in my reviews I go through the list of features on the elliptical trainers. Other than the adjustable CrossRamp, there really are no special features. There are no speakers, no iPod/MP3 input, no fans and you have to pay extra for the wireless heart rate control belt.
What you do get is a heavy duty machine that you might end up passing on to your kids. It weighs a hefty 240 lbs. and is as stable as a boulder. The engineering, design and quality control that goes into the manufacturing of Precor ellipticals make it a superior product that gives a superior workout.
On a final note, I was in a fitness equipment store and I was testing one of the Precor elliptical trainers. There was a customer and as she was walking out she said she owned a Precor elliptical trainer and loved it. Precor customers are proud of their purchase.
