ProForm 790E Elliptical Trainer Review

ProForm 790E elliptical trainer reviewBefore I get into the details, let's make it clear that the ProForm 790E elliptical trainer is not a heavy duty machine.  It clearly falls in the budget class, which is all that ProForm builds.  However, ProForm builds some of the better budget ellipticals on the market, and they usually include some decent features.

So if you are considering buying a crosstrainer and your budget is limited, then the 790E is a consideration.  However, being a budget elliptical the ProForm 790E has its' limitations.  This is not commercial grade and is not a wise choice for someone who does heavy duty workouts.

Note: As of 9/8/10 the ProForm 790E elliptical trainer was selling for $699 with shipping. Go to www.ProForm.com for the latest price.

ProForm 790E Elliptical Trainer Features...

25 Degree Incline — The ability to adjust the incline is one of the most attractive features of the 790E.  There are a couple of benefit to being able to adjust the incline.  Like walking up a hill, when you exercise at a steeper incline you are going to get a more intense cardio workout. And like walking up or down a hill, when you raise or lower the incline you will target different parts of your lower muscles like glutes, quads and claves.

325 Lbs. Weight limit — The 325 lbs. weight limit it absurd.  This is a light weight machine, and I would put the max at around 240 lbs.  Someone 325 lbs. might topple it over.

18" Elliptical Stride — An 18" stride is not exceedingly long.  I would not suggest this machine to someone over 5'10".

Built-in Speakers and iPod Ports — Music is a great motivator and with the ProForm 790E you have speakers built into the console and the ability to plug in your iPod player.

Fan in Console — A cooling fan built into the console blows a refreshing breeze onto your upper body to keep you more comfortable during workouts.

iFit Technology Compatible — iFit is a series of workout cards you plug into the elliptical. Each card has a number of progressive exercises designed by a certified professional trainer. The cards control the level of resistance and focus on different areas of the body. They also provide audio coaching. iFit has become a big hit for NordicTrack.

18 Performance & 6 Weight Loss Programs — If you don't want to spend the money on iFit cards, the 790E comes with 24 different workout programs that provides a variety of challenges.  I personally use a different program every time I workout on my crosstrainer.

Warranty — You get a 1-year parts and labor warranty, which is typical for the price.  You may want to consider getting extended coverage.

Our Review — ProForm 790E Elliptical Trainer

When priced at around $800 or less, with shipping, the ProForm 790E is a consideration for the budget minded individual.  The feel and mechanics are not going to be up to the standards of a commercial elliptical you may have used at the gym.  However, compared to other ellipticals in this price range, the 790E is probably one of the better values, particularly when you factor in the incline feature.
