"Fat" excuses

Being overweight or obese is not a condition to play with; it is quite a risky state as it has a great influence on health, being related to several diseases. In spite of this fact, some people dealing with overweight still find reasons not to fight this condition.

As being overweight or obese involves fat gain in excess, getting rid of it involves diet, exercising, cutting off some favorite foods in some cases, determination and many times a change of lifestyle habits. As the getting rid of the unwanted fat mostly relies on less eating, the excuses to break this habit can quickly come as someone is always bringing cakes into work to celebrate their birthday, their promotion or their escape and several other festive meals are held at the family parties and other social occasions and holidays. And on these days there's food to tempt you everywhere you go. Not to mention fast food places are sprouting up on every corner and supermarkets, luring you with the smell of baking as you walk in the door. BUT, there's no rule that's says you have to eat too much on any occasion, it all comes down to how determined you are to reach your goal. If you're really focused on achieving your target weight, you can change your eating habits one day at a time until you no longer have the same psychological triggers to eat.

Being overweight or obese is related to some serious diseases, like hypertension, type II diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, coronary diseases, stroke, degenerative joint problems, psychosocial disturbances and some diseases present a higher prevalency at overweight people. The fact that lowering fat intake doesn't prevent diseases is true, however it can not be used as an excuse as it is well known, that not just people with fat in excess become ill, BUT they represent a greater risk category.

Stories of unsuccessful slimming surgeries exist and some of them are true, as any kind of surgery involves risks, some greater, some smaller, BUT they lead to significant weight loss in almost all patients and not everyone has to undergo surgery in order to achieve weight loss, as several other methods exist. In fact, weight loss surgery is recommended to people with BMI over 40 and obesity is followed by other associating diseases.

One of the best ways to achieve weight loss is to make a change in formal lifestyle habits, meaning one has to pay attention to the daily calorie intake and introduce some exercising into the daily routine. This procedure involves not only to pay attention to what you eat but also to what you are missing from your diet and this too much paying attention is sometimes used to highlight how difficult it can be to achieve weigh loss. BUT it is only a lame excuse as changing eating habits towards a healthier one never caused anyone unsolvable problems, not to mention that a daily 3 minutes of exercising speeds up metabolism, increases the elimination of toxins and elevates the soul.
