Elliptical Under $800 – Is It a Dud or a Steal?

Sole E20 Elliptical ReviewGREAT DEAL! For a limited time, Sole is offering a FREE 90 day trial membership to their interactive fitness technology Studio with the purchase of any Sole elliptical.

You may have heard of the brand Sole Fitness. Sole has been around for a long time, and their company has certainly earned their stripes over the years in the fitness industry. While other top name brands such as NordicTrack or ProForm are known for their flashy machines, Sole has established a reputation for durability and consistency in their fitness equipment products.

At our last visit to the Sole corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, we discussed the mission behind their machines. The owners at Sole told our Fitness Equipment Source team that the goal at Sole is to provide consumers with the highest quality fitness equipment. Their company chooses to spend money on the components and engineering of their products, rather than the bells and whistles you may see on other machines on the market.

Sole ellipticals are appealing to a wide array of budgets. Their machines have always ranged from the $999-$2,500 range. With Sole’s newest elliptical launch, they’ve expanded the affordability of their products even more. The brand new E20 elliptical from Sole is priced below $800, which is a new price category for their company. As most of us know, cheaper doesn’t always mean better. So, the real question is, is the new budget-friendly elliptical from Sole worth your money? Let’s jump right in.

Get the Sole E20 elliptical at a residential price of only $799.. 30 Day Money Back Guarantee and $99 Flat Rate Shipping!

*Shipping/Delivery Note: All Sole ellipticals come with free curbside delivery. For this standard delivery, the driver will back the truck up as far as they can (which is sometimes at the end of your driveway) and unload your elliptical box for you. Ellipticals can often be awkward to move and typically require more than one person. Sole now offers Assembly Authority Delivery for $299. An Assembly Authority Tech will unload the elliptical to the designated room of your choice, assemble it, and demonstrate the functionality for you. This new delivery option is a great deal in our opinion.

How Does the Sole E20 Compare in Its Price Range?

Prior to the launch of the E20, the only ellipticals available near this price point were the EX-59 from Horizon and the Hybrid Trainer XT from ProForm. Check out this quick comparison chart of the three models.

Model Sole E20 Horizon EX-59 ProForm Hybrid Trainer XT

It’s clear that between the 3 major contenders in the <$700 elliptical category, the Sole E20 is the overall winner. Since the machine is available at such a low price point, you are certainly sacrificing some of the features that you would get on a higher priced elliptical. However, for the price range, the E20 elliptical is the best that you will find in the industry.

Top Features of the Sole E20

Price – If you’re on a budget, the price point will probably be the most attractive feature to you. We typically see this machine priced right at $650.

Stride – An 18” maximum stride length is the standard we’d expect on a budget elliptical. The stride length is manual adjustable. If you are on the taller side, any elliptical in this price range will likely feel cramped and uncomfortable to you.

Drive System – A front drive designed elliptical is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these machines are easier to get on and off of due to the fact that you don’t have to step over a lot of machine. Front drive ellipticals are also often lower to the ground. Find out here if a front drive vs. rear drive elliptical is the right choice for you.

Incline – The option of power adjustable incline will allow users of all fitness levels to be challenged.

Sole E20 EllipticalPedals – The E20 pedals are a fixed 15”. Our team has always been impressed with the elliptical pedals from Sole. Their foot pedals are designed by physical therapists for optimal foot positioning and comfort.

Display – A nice 5.5” LED screen on an elliptical priced this low is a great feature.

Flywheel – A 14.4 LB. flywheel is certainly nothing to write home about. The heavier the flywheel on an elliptical, the more stable that you will feel during your workout. This is the best that you will find in the price range.

Programs – The workout program offered from Sole make the E20 price point all the more exciting. With this machine, users will have access to the interactive fitness technology known as Studio. For a long time, the only type of technology like this on the market was iFit. However, Studio recently came in and changed the game with more perks at a more affordable price point. Studio offers benefits like…

  • 3,000+ on-demand workouts, new ones added daily
  • Real-time community leaderboard
  • Class variety for all fitness levels
  • Earn FITCOIN by exercising in Studio to redeem prizes
  • Killer workout playlists
  • World renowned NASM certified trainers
  • Detailed workout metrics

At the time of this review, the E20 comes with a free 30-day access to Studio. After that, the technology is a $19.99/month subscription. You can save some money by purchasing annually vs. monthly. This is a great deal in comparison to iFit that is available on NordicTrack and ProForm machines. iFit is $39/month.

Warranty – Sole has consistently offered the best warranty on the market. Their company is passionate about product quality and their warranty can attest. The E20 comes with lifetime frame, 3-year electronics, and 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Other Features – Water bottle holder, whisper quiet drive system, Bluetooth speakers built into the console, USB port, integrated tablet holder, pulse monitors, wireless chest strap

Sole E20 Drawbacks

Of course, with a machine at this price point, there have to be some drawbacks. Some of the more obvious cons are that you aren’t getting a heavy flywheel like you would with an upgraded model, and the stride may feel limiting to some users. In addition, the E20 has a single rail. With constant machine use, single rail ellipticals can be less stable. The double rail on elliptical models tend to give users more stability with use over the long run.

Sole E20 Elliptical MachineLastly, the E20 weighs 175 lbs. and claims to be rated for users up to 300 lbs. The next elliptical model in Sole’s lineup, the E25 elliptical weigh 212 lbs. and is rated for users up to 350 lbs. Since the E20 only weighs around 40 lbs. less than the E25, we are unsure about the accuracy of the weight limit. A user of 300 lbs. on a machine that only weighs 175 lbs. may be pushing the limits of the machine.

Sole E20 Elliptical Review – Final Verdict

Considering the price point of the Sole E20 and the features that are available, we have to give this machine the verdict of a steal. If you’re looking for an elliptical that will get the job done if you’re on a budget, don’t look any further than the E20. Between the adjustable incline, physical therapist designed pedals, nicely sized display screen, and access to Studio fitness technology – this elliptical offers a bargain deal to consumers. Plus, it’s backed by the reputation of the Sole Fitness brand and their outstanding warranty.
