The AudioStrider 990 Pro take Crosstraining to a New Level!
The NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 Pro has been a “Best Buy” with popular consumer magazines for the last four years in a row. It provides fantastic incline training that adjusts from 15 degrees to a heart-pounding, cadi 40 degrees with the touch of a button. This allows you to target lower body muscles without straining your joints. This machine comes with a high-tech console that has 24 digital resistance levels and 30 workout apps.
It is another impressive product from a company that is known for providing more for less money. NordicTrack is part of the world’s largest fitness equipment manufacturer, Icon Fitness. Their economy of scale gives them an edge in the very competitive fitness equipment industry.
24 Resistance Levels and 30 Workout Apps – This is an impressive offering of features to help you vary your workout.
15-40 Degree Power Incline Ramp – Adjusting the incline will modify the shape and size of your stride and target different lower body muscles. The stride can vary from 20-23″. We like that this machine allows you to vary your workout so greatly.
Upper Body Grips with In Handle Controls – Upper body grips help you target your entire body. We like that you can put more focus on your arms if desired. You can change the resistance and ramp incline easily using built in controls.
26 lb Flywheel – A heavier flywheel allows a smoother and more natural stride.
Adjustable Foot Pedals – Choose between three options so you have a comfortable heel-to-toe angle. This feature helps prevent “toe numbness” common on many ellipticals.
The NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 Pro provides a smooth and comfortable workout. We were impressed by its 30 workout apps, wide range of incline, and adjustable foot pedals. They all work together to create a smooth and effective workout. NordicTrack is known for creating machines that provide more benefit for less money.

A New Concept in CrossTraining – Define Your Own Motion and Exercise!
Freestride Trainer FS5i is the entry model of the FreeStride Trainers, a technological and ergonomic breakthrough in cross training. This unique machine design allows for free style and variable motion, which allows for several advantages over the typical elliptical.
The FS5i acts like a combination of stair stepper, elliptical trainer, and treadmill so you can work various low body muscles. This motion provides “muscle confusion” resulting in a much more effective workout.
We like this model, but feel your money would be better spent on the FS7i or FS9i models that include a longer stride length, heavier flywheels, the ability to adjust incline and more impressive interactive full color display consoles. However, if your budget is limited the NordicTrack FreeStride Trainer FS5i is still impressive.
NordicTrack has made the following changes on the FS5i for the 2019 season. It now has a smaller 5″ backlit display and a 3-year parts warranty. Other than that, things are staying pretty much the same. We definitely recommend you take advantage of the lower pricing on the older machine while it lasts!
Variable Motion —The NordicTrack FreeStride Trainer FS5i allows you to define an ergonomic stride path of your own rather than being confined to a set pattern. This prevents your body from adjusting to the exercise so you can cause “muscle confusion.” The motion combines the benefits of a stair stepper, treadmill, and elliptical, working a variety of lower body muscles. The stride length on this machine is 32″ compared to 38″ on the FS7i and FS9i models.
Upper Body Workout —Like on an elliptical, handlebars allow you to exercise your upper body. The FS5i has integrated handle controls for ramp and resistance built into the handle bars so you can adjust your workout without breaking stride.
iFit Live is an innovative technology only available from NordicTrack and its sister companies. A paid subscription is required for this service.
Oversized Cushion Pedals – Extra long and extra wide pedals with grooved cushioning are great for a relaxed and stable foot grip.
OneTouch Console Controls – The console is well designed and allows you to switch between 22 resistance programs.
5″ Backlit Display – This is nothing too exciting but it works fine. If you are interested in a web enabled color touchscreen, you’ll need to spend more money on the FS7i or the FS9i machines.
16 Lb. Flywheel — A heavier flywheel gives the motion a smooth and natural feel. This is one of the areas where the FS5i and FS7i differ. The FS7i has a 20 lb flywheel.
Center Drive — This design reduces the frame size to half the size of a typical elliptical. It also creates greater stability. The FreeStride Trainer FS5i is 68″ compared to a machine like the Sole E95 elliptical that is 83″.
Other Features Include…
There’s no doubt that the NordicTrack FreeStride Trainer series have some fantastic benefits over typical ellipticals. The unique motion targets more muscles in the lower body providing an effective workout. Plus, the smaller footprint takes up less space in your home and the iFit technology provides great motivation and fitness tracking.
While this is a great machine, it might be worthwhile to spend around $500 more for the FS7i. You will be getting an incline feature, heavier 20 lb flywheel, and 7″ Web-Enabled Color Touchscreen. Plus, the stride on the FS7i machine extends 6″ farther for a 38″ length.
As for which specific model is better … you should definitely take a look at the FreeStride Trainer FS7i and FreeStride Trainer FS9i. They each offer slightly different features at various prices. Depending on the current sales that are going on, you can even find one of these higher models listed at a lower price!

The video below was short recently at NordicTrack Headquarters by our Team
A Compact Center Drive Elliptical with Adjustable Stride
The NordicTrack A.C.T Commercial is a center drive elliptical trainer that has become extremely popular with consumers. In response, NordicTrack released this upgraded version – A.C.T. Commercial 10. The A.C.T. Commercial 10 has a 25 lb flywheel, 24 digital resistance levels, and a 18-22″ adjustable stride. Best of all, it has a 10″ Smart HD Touchscreen that provides motivation during your workout.
A note on ACT Commercial Models: You may have noticed the ACT Commercial PRO and ACT PRO Elliptical were both listed on the NordicTrack site. Both of these models have been discontinued and their popular features combined into the ACT Commercial 10. Basically, the ACT Commercial 10 is giving you all of their best elements in one tidy package!
18″-22″ Adjustable Stride —It can be a challenge to find an elliptical with the correct stride length to match your height. Taller individuals can feel cramped on a machine that has a shorter stride. With this adjustable stride, you won’t run into that problem. Adjusting stride length can also help you focus your exercise on different parts of your lower body to get a more “full body” workout.
Compact Design — The A.C.T. ellipticals have a great compact design where all of the mechanics are condensed into only 54″. (In comparison, the Sole E95 is 82″ in length.) This makes it the ideal type of elliptical for apartment and condo dwellers.
Very Stable —Center drive ellipticals have a square base that contributes to a solid, stable feel. It is much better than most ellipticals that tend to rock during a strenuous workout.
Level Motion — There is a long-running debate about whether it’s better to have a front or rear-drive elliptical. Now, this discussion needs to include the center design. There are several advantages with this type of machine:
First, you are centered over the motion so you don’t need to lean forward when using the handlebars. This allows for a more natural position and striding motion.
Second, we feel that this type of machine provides a better upper body workout. With front drive elliptical, you often need to consciously plan to put effort on the handlebars. Otherwise, your arms just go along with the motion. With a center drive machine, the resistance is more evenly distributed between your arms and legs.
10″ Smart HD Touchscreen — View your workout stats, training program options and your favorite websites while you workout. This beautifully large screen helps provide motivation while you exercise.
iFit Ready — This innovative technology helps you get more out of your workout. You can perform a new workout every day, track your progress, take on HD video workouts, and even replicate real routes with Google Maps. The machine will match the real-life terrain by adjusting incline and resistance as you go. This program does require a paid subscription to access.
Note: At the time of this posting, this machine comes with a FREE 1-year iFit Membership. A great value!
35 Installed Workout Programs —This is a nice variety of pre-installed workout programs.
Pedal Distance — The pedal distance on the center design of the NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 is closer than on many models. This is especially beneficial for women of average or below-average height.
Warranty — The warranty is lifetime frame, 5-year parts and 2-year labor. A typically strong warranty for NordicTrack machines.
The A.C.T. Commercial 10 elliptical is most appealing because of its center drive construction. There are a number of benefits associated with this design, but the small footprint is the best part. It is perfect for those who live in smaller homes like apartments and condos. iFit Live and the adjustable stride length are other great and appealing features on this machine. When the price is right, this is an attractive option for buyers.
If you want to save abut $500, you might also want to check out the the original NordicTrack ACT Commercial. You will be downgrading o a 5″ backlit screen and a lower warranty, however you still still have the same great design and iFit Live features. You’ll just need to use the tablet holder to view your iFit stats rather than using the on-console display.

An Impressive Number of Features for a Reasonable Price
The NordicTrack Elite 12.7 elliptical trainer shares many of the same specs as the Elite 12.9. It contains an impressive number of features for a reasonable price. If you compare this machine to other $1,500 ellipticals, you will see the great value with this series of machines. NordicTrack is able to offer more for less on their machines since they are part of the world’s largest manufacturing company, Icon Fitness. Best of all, the NordicTrack Elite 12.7 is iFit enabled with HD video programs so you can get an engaging and effective cross-training workout.
HD Video Workouts — Built in HD video workouts help to motivate and inspire you during your exercise routine. A personal trainer coaches you during the program while sharing interesting facts about the landscape. The incline and resistance will adjust to match the simulated terrain.
iFit Live — This interactive training program will help you get more out of your workouts. Exercise with a new workout every day, track your progress, replicate real-life training routes with Google Maps, and customize your workout to reach your fitness goals. Be aware that this program does require an additional paid subscription to access.
0-20 Degree Incline — This incline lets you get an intense cardio workout that exceeds the typical 15 degree max on most other ellipticals. The stride length will automatically adjust between 20″ and 22″.
32 lb. Flywheel — A heavier flywheel like this will contribute to a more natural elliptical motion. The cheaper models have lighter flywheels that deliver a choppy and uncomfortable stride.
Upper Body Grips — These soft touch upper-body workout arms help provide better calorie-burning results.
35 Built-in Workouts — This is a nice variety of programs that help target calorie-burning, incline, or intensity goals.
Adjustable Foot Pedals — Customize your toe-to-heel angle so you can maximize your muscle toning while maintaining great traction control. Best of all, these pedals help you avoid toe numbness that often occurs on ellipticals..
Sound System with MP3 Speakers — 2-inch speakers will pump out your favorite tunes while you workout!
375 lb. User Weight Limit — This is a bit high, so we would actually suggest a limit of only 275 lbs.
Warranty — The NordicTrack Elite 12.7 comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame, 5 years on parts, and 2 years on labor.
Front Drive vs. Rear Drive Elliptical — The NordicTrack Elite 12.7 is a front drive elliptical. You may be wondering about the differences between front and rear-drive machines. Which is better? A rear drive machine will give you a slightly smoother motion. A front drive elliptical has three benefits: 1) They are more compact by about a foot. 2) They are easier to mount and dismount since you don’t have to step over the rear drive mechanism. 3) The pedals are closer together which places less stress on your hips.
The NordicTrack 12.7 is a nice machine with a smooth and natural elliptical stride. We especially like that it is iFit Live compatible, has adjustable foot pedals, 35 built-in programs, and HD Video workouts. It also has an impressive warranty that can give you confidence in your purchase. If you are looking for a slightly different option, you may also consider the NordicTrack Elite 12.9, which is the sister machine.

Note: Since the time of this review the FS9i has been discontinued and replaced with the FS10i.
This was a question I recently was asked by one of our readers. Although NordicTrack offers some of the best values for fitness equipment in the industry, they sometimes will offer an upgraded version of an existing model at a price that does not justify the additional cost.
This is the dialogue…
The NordicTrack A.C.T Commercial center drive elliptical trainer has been to be so popular NordicTrack has released two upgraded versions. Since then, this particular model has been discontinued. We recommend you check out the ACT Commercial and ACT Commercial 10.
In addition to the numerous benefits of the A.C.T. design, the NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 7 elliptical trainer offered a full color display with an Android browser.
18″-22″ Adjustable Stride — It’s important for each user to be on an elliptical with the proper stride length for their body. An adjustable stride is extremely useful so each user can workout in their comfort zone. Plus, once you’ve found your ideal stride length, you can switch the length slightly to work different muscles in your lower body.
Compact Design — Elliptical trainers can be space hogs. Some models have very long lengths, particularly front wheel designs. Of course, there are some very compact rear wheel designs, but they are usually cheap models that are not very stable. The center design condenses the mechanics and results in a machine that is only 47″ long. In comparison, the Sole E95 is 82″ in length. The A.C.T. Commercial 7 is ideal for apartment and condo dwellers.
Very Stable — Unless you get a very heavy model, many elliptical trainers are not that stable. Many traditional models tend to rock if you’re really going hard. The ACT Commercial models sit on a square base and tend to be much more stable.
Level Motion — People in the elliptical world are used to arguing about whether the motion on a front drive or rear drive is better. Now they need to add center drive to the conversation! Here are a few points to consider:
First, the name says it all. On a center drive elliptical you tend to be more centered over the motion. With front drive machines, I feel like I’m leaning forward. With a center drive, I feel balanced with a natural body position.
Second, a center drive elliptical tends to provide a more effective upper body workout. When I workout on my front drive machine, my arms often go along for the ride. With this center drive machine, I feel like my arms are forced to work a bit harder.
Full Color Android Browser Display — Scroll through your stats with the swipe of a finger, then go online while you workout. Read email, watch sports and peruse your favorite social networks.
iFit Live — iFit Live allows a 2-way communication between your elliptical and the Internet. All your workout data like distance run, time, calories burned, etc., is downloaded and tracked on your personal profile page on iFit.com. You also have these additional features…
This is the kind of feature that can push people to burn more calories and get into shape. Plus in breaks up the monotony of exercising in place. Note, there is an additional cost for iFit Live and it requires Wi-Fi.
35 Installed Workout Programs — NordicTrack generally offers a wide variety of programmed challenges with their machines.
Pedal Distance — Center Drive ellipticals have closely spaced pedals that work perfectly for women or those with a shorter stature. On regular ellipticals, wide set pedals can cause hip pain after long use.
Cooling Fan — NordicTrack told us that their customers always ask about the fans! Their fans tend to be more effective than the competition.
Sound System — The sound systems that NordicTrack installs on their equipment is above average in comparison to other brands.
Warranty — The warranty is lifetime frame, 5-year parts and 2-year labor.
Being a center drive elliptical is what makes the NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 7 appealing. As mentioned above, there are a number of benefits to the center drive design, particularly the small footprint. Although the variable stride is a big plus.
What also makes the A.C.T. Commercial 7 worth considering is the iFit Live. This feature can be a great motivator for those who need an extra push to burn the calories. It also helps to break the monotony of exercising in place.
When priced right this elliptical is an attractive package.

The NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 is their premium front drive elliptical that has all the best features NordicTrack has to offer. This front drive model also has the benefits of being more compact and easier to mount and dismount. Besides the advantages that come with a front drive elliptical trainer, you get the typical array of features that distinguishes NordicTrack from their competition. Many of these features are designed to motivate you in achieving your fitness goals.
Motivating yourself to work out on your fitness equipment is one of the biggest challenges to getting in shape and losing weight. For many, without some motivation or distraction, their cardio machine ends up being a very expensive clothes hanger. There are three features on the NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical trainer that are designed to overcome those issues…
14” Smart HD Touchscreen — This console allows you to integrate with the iFit workouts and fitness tracking programs.
iFit Technology — iFit is available on all NordicTrack elliptical trainers.
Note: At the time of this posting, this machine comes with FREE 1-year iFit Membership. A great value!
Through iFit, you can…
Create customized workout programs at your personal account at iFit.com. Based on your fitness goals like losing weight and getting in shape, your personalized workouts are downloaded onto the Commercial 14.9 and they control the resistance and incline of the machine. Each program last over over a defined period and is progressive in nature. The training includes audio coaching to further motivate you. After each work out your stats are downloaded to your iFit account so you can review your progress.
Sync with Google Maps – Through Google Maps you can map out routes and your elliptical will simulate the terrain. You can watch your progress with street scenes on Google Maps. Once again you stats are downloaded to your iFit account for review. In addition, iFit offers a series of videos of famous landscapes and like the Google Map feature as you progress the NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical trainer will simulate the terrain. There is an additional cost for iFit.
Auto Adjustable Stride Length — The stride length is adjustable from 17.5″-18.7. If you are very tall you may want to consider a different length.
32 LB. Flywheel — This is a fairly heavy flywheel that contributes to a very smooth and natural elliptical motion. It makes you feel like you are running in the air. This sense of floating on air really distinguishes a quality cross trainer from cheap machines. And it further reduces stress to your joints by eliminating jolting motion.
Adjustable Oversized Foot Pedals — By adjusting the angle of the pedals you can reduce the potential of numbness that comes with excessive foot lift. In addition, they added extra cushioning to the foot pedals to further reduce the stress to your lower joints.
0-20% Incline — The incline capabilities on this machine will really get your heart pumping and take your workout to the next level! Plus, if you’re using iFit, your personal trainer can automatically adjust your incline levels for you.
Dual Handle Bar Grips — With the dual grips you can change up where you grip the handle bars, which allows you to target different parts of your arm muscles.
Warranty — 10-year frame, 2 year parts and 1 year labor coverage.
Autobreeze Workout Fan – This over-sized fan automatically adjusts its speed to match your workout intensity. Pretty handy!
The NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical trainer structurally is a solid built crosstrainer that offers a rewarding and ergonomic cardio work out. In addition, it is equipped with features designed to motivate and to alleviate the boredom of exercising in place.
At $1,999, it is an attractive offer and with the various features and the optional iFit tecnology the NordicTrack Commercial 14.9 may be one of the best values for under $2,000. We feel very comfortable recommending this machine.
Check back often as we update the prices on these machines daily! You can also see our comparison of all Nordictrack ellipticals here.

The Evolution of Cross Training!
Update: Since the time of this review, the FS9i has been replaced with the FS10i. Read our full review of the FreeStride Trainer FS10i here.
Our team traveled to the NordicTrack headquarters in Logan, UT. Although the winter trip was a bit shocking to our southern blood, it was worth the trip to review their FreeStride Trainer FS9i, one of the most innovative cross training machine on the market.
The name best describes the type of exercise you get – FreeStride. It is ergonomically designed to move the way you do, unlike a treadmill or elliptical trainer where you are locked in a particular motion. The ability to have variable motions allows you to target more muscles and it breaks you out of the mold.
When you exercise within a set pattern your body adjusts and consequently minimizes the benefits of the workout. What you want is “muscle confusion”, which is exactly what the FS9i does, confuses your muscles.
Variable Motion — As mentioned above, the ability to vary the motion of your exercise is extremely beneficial in sculpting muscles and burning calories. The FreeStride Trainer FS9i mimics three different exercise machines…
You get a stair climbing motion, a smooth elliptical stride and the ability to simulate running on air. In addition, the FreeStride Trainer FS9i has a stride length up to 32”. So users can extend their stride length to what feels natural. Furthermore, the ability to define your motion and stride length is ideal for accommodating users of different heights.
10% Incline – 10% Decline — To enhance your workout the FreeStride Trainer FS9i allows you to incline and decline the motion. You can simulate going up and down hills, and in the process you further target additional leg muscles and get a more intense cardio workout.
Upper Body Workout — Like an elliptical trainer, the FreeStride Trainer FS9i comes with moving upper body handle bars, which allows you to target upper body muscles. We found it most advantageous to alternate resistance training between the upper and lower body.
20 Lbs. Flywheel — Similar to an elliptical trainer the FreeStride Trainer utilizes a flywheel. The heavy flywheel gives the motion a smooth and natural feel.
10” Smart HD Touchscreen — The display gives you colorful feedback on your workout stats and connects to iFit Live.
iFit Live is NordicTrack’s signature technology that are designed to motivate you to reach your fitness goals. Other companies are offering interactive technologies, but iFit Coach defines the standards. With iFit Coach you can…
Warranty — You get a fairly standard coverage that includes lifetime frame, 5-years parts and 2-year labor.
Easy Assembly — We have not assembled a FreeStride Trainer, but from what we tell, it is considerably easier to assemble than your typical elliptical or treadmill. They can often take several hours and two people to assemble.
See a comparison chart of all NordicTrack Elliptical trainers here.
When you first get on the FreeStride Trainer FS9i, it is rather awkward because you are defining the motion. However, once you get the hang of it, it is a rush. You will find similar commercial versions of the FS9i in health clubs, and they are growing in popularity because of the “muscle confusion” workout that they provide. In addition to confusing your muscles, it also takes the boredom out of exercising in place. You have a variety of options that makes exercising more challenging.
However, that is only part of the story of the FreeStride Trainer FS9i. The other is the numerous options and add-ons. Features like the 10” Smart HD Touchscreen, iFit Live compatibility, incline/decline capability, 38 preset programs and speakers make this a total motivational and interactive workout machine.
In talking to one of the staff members at the headquarters he mentioned that the Freestride Trainers are their hottest selling items. Having experienced it personally we can see why! You may also want to check out the FreeStride Trainer FS7i to save around $1,000. The touchscreen is not as large and the FS7i does not have a decline feature.

Video review taken when visiting the NordicTrack Headquarters!
The NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i is a rear drive elliptical trainer that is modeled after the award winning design of Precor ellipticals. They purchased the patent rights to produce more reasonably priced models, but the SpaceSaver SE9i still offers the benefit of a very ergonomic design at a value price.
This machine recently received a rating of “Excellent” in the category of User Safety by a trusted consumer magazine. The SE9i also scored “Very Good” in the categories of Ergonomics, Construction, Ease of Use, and Exercise Range. In addition, the NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i offers some exceptional mechanical features and combines it with interactive technology only available on NordicTrack ellipticals.
The NordicTrack SE9i is priced at $1,699 plus a $99 delivery fee. 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. Financing is available. *Due to high demand, ships 6/14/21
7″ Smart HD Touchscreen— The SpaceSaver SE9i comes with a a 7” touch screen full color display. You get graphically pleasing feedback with your stats. And the browser fully interacts with iFit Live (See Below).
Rear Drive Design — The both elliptical trainers utilize a rear drive design on is based on a patent from Precor, which builds some of the best commercial grade elliptical trainer on the planet. NordicTrack leases the patent. The advantages of the rear drive design are…
Power Incline — This feature is found on most elliptical trainers, however, with a rear drive design you tend to maintain a true elliptical motion as it is raised. Most front drive machines warp the motion when the incline is raised.
Snap Assembly — Having done our share of assembling fitness equipment, we can attest that it is often a pain and helps if there are two people. The NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i requires three simple steps to assemble, which means you are not pulling out your hair trying to figure out the assembly manual and where all the parts go.
iFit Live Coach Ready— iFit Live allows your elliptical trainer to communicate with the Internet. Through iFit Live you can create progressive customized workouts with audio coaching, simulate running outside through Google Maps, and track your progress and your stats through your iFit.com account. This technology is only available on NordicTrack and ProForm machines, which are built by the same company. There is an additional cost for this feature.
Note: At the time of this posting, this machine includes a FREE 1-year iFit Membership. A great value!
24 Workout Programs — There are 14 cardio burn programs and 10 performance programs, which is a generous selection in comparison to other brands and models of elliptical trainers.
Cooling Fan, Speakers and MP3 Input
Adjustable Oversized Cushioned Foot Pedals – These pedals allow you to adjust the angle to minimize foot lift. The extra large pedals give you
Folding Storage — The NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i elliptical trainer is designed to fold and stand upright for space saving storage.
18 Lb. Flywheel — The weight of the flywheel will give the NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE9i a smooth motion that will feel like you are running on air.
Warranty — The warranty is a bit sub-par for this price range, however, rear drive ellipticals tend to be very low maintenance.
Click here for a comparison chart of NordicTrack Ellipticals.
The SpaceSaver SE9i gives you the ergonomics of a Precor elliptical for a fraction of the price. In addition, you are the Android browser and iFit capability, which are only found on Icon Fitness products (Parent company of NordicTrack.). The engineering, design and technology make the SE9i a winning proposition.
To save about $800, you may also want to check out the SpaceSaver SE7i model. It only has a 5″ back-lit display and a lower warranty, but that might be worth the price savings for you.
Have been using this elliptical consistently for about a week now. Before this I had only used a health club elliptical. It is every bit as good as the one I used in the gym. Very smooth, very quite. I had it assembled in minutes. Also using iFit and have really enjoyed the maps. Have used preset maps and also created my own. I would definitely recommend this elliptical from my experience so far.
